While some may think that we were crazy for moving away from Miami and leaving our little love nest by the sea: Nirvana, we knew in our hearts that it wasn’t our forever home. Now don’t get me wrong, knowing that we would someday leave doesn’t mean that it was easier to leave. Miami and specifically our apartment will always have such a special place in our hearts. So many amazing big life moments happened for us during our time in Nirvana. It was the first home Jason and I shared, it saw us get engaged, plan our wedding, it saw Jason go through law school, and then study for not one, not two, but three bar exams! It saw us have sooo many highs and some lows, and most of all it was our little retreat after a day out in wild Miami, we always knew we had Nirvana to go home to.

Although we were so excited to begin a new chapter I could not fight the feeling of nostalgia and would break into tears in the middle of packing boxes (embarrassing but I’m a total crier.) We loved that apartment so much. The finality of it all hit me really hard; never driving into our urban oasis again, never seeing all the quirky neighbors that live in the building again, and most of all never seeing our beautiful view again. It was the end of a chapter and as such, it needed to be marked. On our last night surrounded by boxes, Jason and I ordered from our favorite neighborhood pizza place, popped open a bottle of champagne and, made a toast to the past the present and the future. The next morning at 5:00 am we got into our moving truck and said farewell to Nirvana.

Having lived in tropical climates my entire life there has definitely been a learning curve on how to survive the cold. It didn’t take too long for me to realize that what I had in my wardrobe was not going to cut it. After some not so great purchases I have learned (the cold way, ha!) what works and what doesn’t, so without further ado here are my absolute must-haves to survive the cold:

1. A GREAT COAT

It goes without saying that a coat is needed for cold weather but having the right kind of coat can really change everything. Depending on how cold it gets where you live or where you’re traveling to I highly recommend a down coat or parka. For milder temps look for a lighter fill. Although down coats are on the pricier side they are totally worth the money. Stick to neutral colors and it is guaranteed to take you through years of cold seasons.

2. WINTER BOOTS

Ok ok so this one may seem obvious as well but I cannot stress enough how much the right boot during freezing temperature can make all the difference. I learned this lesson very quickly when I tried to go the inexpensive route and purchase boots that we’re not weatherproof and left my feet wet and cold. Investing in weatherproof footwear with a rubber sole and shearling or fur lining is a must!

3. WARM GLOVES

I have learned that if my feet and hands are warm I’m a happy camper. Along with a great boot, you will need a good pair of gloves. There are so many cute options out there that there is no need to settle. Just make sure that they are made of a fabric that will keep the warmth in like microfleece or wool.

4. FLEECE LINED LEGGINGS

If you take one thing away from this post let it be Fleece Lined Leggings! These are so amazing! These leggings will keep you warm and cozy all season long. The best part is they can be easily dressed up or down and can be worn from the office to the gym. When the temperatures drop I live in these! Run and get some, thank me later.

5. HATS & SCARVES

I left hats and scarves as the last item because while I do think that they are helpful for cold weather I don’t believe they are absolutely necessary. If you like to accessorize (I know I’m guilty!) then a hat and/or a scarf can really complete your cold-weather outfit. Just because you hiding under a parka does not mean you can’t look cute!

What are some of your must-have winter necessities? Is there anything that you just can’t live without when its cold out? I would love to hear in the comments below!

You guys, THIS dress!!! All the heart eyes! This and every dress from Brazilian brand Farm Rio are to die for. I love versatile dresses that can be taken from season to season. Throw on sandals and a straw tote and its perfect for spring or summer. My favorite feature is the wrap style, it is so flattering on every shape. The fabric is also such amazing quality which gives the dress such beautiful movement making me love it even more. I could go on and on and on about this dress but you get the point. It’s amazing so run out and get yourself anything by them and thank me later. Below I included some of my current Farm Rio favorites.

Happy Tuesday!

PS: This post is no way sponsored, all opinions are my own, I truly love the brand this much!

The day is here! Former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman just released her second book Single State of Mind. I’m a huge fan and could not download the book fast enough. I’m already more than halfway through and it’s soo good so far that I don’t want it to end. As far as bachelorettes go she has been by far my favorite! She was smart, classy, not afraid to speak her mind, was in it for the “right reasons,” and so so pretty! She carried herself so well as the lead and only continues to impress me with her writing. I’m not quite done with the book yet but I can already say I highly recommend it!

Anywho, on to the fashion! I love combining a more rugged fabric like the shearling in the vest with a softer feminine piece like this floral dress. This look is a little outside of my comfort zone of all things preppy and feminine but I love how the overall look turned out. I was soo comfortable (read: warm) without sacrificing looking stylish. Afterall, what good is a fabulous outfit if you are not comfortable, am I right?

Today I wanted to share the photos from our 2017 holiday cards. Since we are in a new town we wanted to do something totally different so we decided to head over to the Mystic Tree Farm for our shoot. Neither of us had ever been to a Christmas Tree Farm and we had a blast just frolicking around all the beautiful Christmas trees. Despite the freezing temperatures it has been so nice to wear real winter garments. If you asked me what my favorite season to dress for I would hands down say, Winter. There is something about tights, boots, and coats that automatically elevates an outfit and makes you feel so polished. I picked up this Kate Spade coat in anticipation of the cold and I could not wait to wear it. I love a good winter white and love breaking the “No white after Labor Day” rule. White is actually one of my favorite colors and it can look so crisp during the colder seasons.

What is your favorite color to wear during Winter? Does anyone love coats as much as I do? Would love to know in the comments below!

Happy Tuesday!
